Salman Khan
Salman (Sal) Khan is currently the portfolio manager at Khan Capital Management, LLC — a hedge fund based in Palo Alto, CA. He is also the founder of the Khan Academy (khanacademy.org), a not-for-profit organization offering math, science and finance content to self-learners anywhere. Sal has made two recent appearances on CNN to explain the credit crisis and the Khan Academy was recently discussed in an article by the Associated Press on YouTube-based education. Sal is also an Affiliate of the Berkeley-HAAS Center for Innovative Financial Technology and has co-authored a recent paper on the Credit Crisis with its founding director, David Leinweber.
Sal spent the five years prior to founding Khan Capital as the first employee and senior analyst at Wohl Capital Management — a hedge fund in Menlo Park, CA with $330m under management. He has also held positions at Xerox PARC, Oracle, and MVC Venture Capital. Sal received his MBA from Harvard Business School where he was co-president of his class. He also holds a Masters in Computer Science, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and a B.S. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Jeffrey Martin, Ph.D.
Dr. Jeffrey Martin teaches entrepreneurial management and finance at The University of Texas' McCombs School of Business. He received his PhD in Strategy and Organization from Stanford University in 2002. He received an MBA from the University of Michigan in 1996 and his BS in Computer Science from Brigham Young University.
In addition to his PhD, Dr. Martin has more than 15 years of industry experience as a consultant, executive, entrepreneur, project manager, and technical marketer. In these roles he has helped organizations solve complex business problems in technology, education, and federal, state, and local government organizations.
His industry experience includes: serving on the top management team of MatriDigm, a software technology and services startup, where he established their marketing, sales, and field service organization in 1996; helping to create the first Silicon Valley consulting practice for the IBM Consulting Group in 1991; and founding Thermax, a Los Angeles energy conservation marketing company, in 1981.
Monica McCarty
As an Independent consultant to businesses and not-for-profit organizations Monica has created and delivered a variety of education and training programs for employees at all levels. She has facilitated planning retreats and has led team building experiences for Boards of Directors, management teams, and entrepreneurs in industries including Financial Services, Health and Wellness, Consumer Products and Services, Media and the Arts.
During her 13-year career with Bank of America, Monica was appointed to the faculty of the Georgia Banking School at the University of Georgia at Athens. She served on a curriculum review team in 1996. In 1987, she was recognized as Outstanding Instructor of the Year by the Atlanta Chapter of the American Institute of Banking for teaching Analyzing Financial Statements, Effective English, and Business Writing.
Monica received an MBA with Honors from Harvard Business School in 1989 and a BA in French and Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1981. At HBS, she was selected by the faculty to tutor Finance, Management Communications, and Organizational Behavior. At UNC, she was selected by the faculty to teach total immersion French to advanced undergraduates.
Her passion for education is not limited to academic curriculum. Monica maintains an AFAA certification in group exercise instruction. For over 20 years, she has led weekly adult classes in yoga, spinning, sculpting and dance. In her leisure time, Monica enjoys teaching Spanish to elementary school students; she is a student of Tibetan, her seventh language.
Lori Whitted
Lori Whitted is Senior Vice President at Jackson Securities, where she leads their Corporate Finance practice. She is also General Partner at Venturepreneur Partners, a venture capital firm that invests in companies that leverage innovative business processes or applications of the Internet, enterprise software or communications technology.
Ms. Whitted is a seasoned executive with an extensive background in strategic analysis, mergers & acquisitions, financial management, business development, and product management. She has previously held senior positions within notable organizations such as General Electric Company, GE Capital Group, The Boston Consulting Group, The Washington Post Company, VeriSign and Worldspan. Additionally, she is the founder and CEO of a consulting boutique focused on M&A support and new venture development.
Ms. Whitted holds a BA in Economics from Duke University and an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
